Castle Calling is the brainchild of Richmondshire District Youth Council, a group set up with the support of Richmondshire District Council and North Yorkshire County Council’s 4Youth Service. The Youth Council aims to provide young people living in Richmondshire with a voice and a say about what happens in their district, particularly about issues which affect young people themselves. One of the youth council’s prime objectives has been to provide young people with places to go, and things to do, and this is where the idea of live music events was sparked.
Up until 2009 the Youth Council had held events in smaller venues around the town. But then members decided to create an open air event and attract bigger bands. The Holloways played in 2009 and 2010 saw The Futureheads, Darwin Deez, Johnny Foreigner, Detroit Social Club and the Little Comets take to the stage.
